LOVE THE TRUTH is my new BLOG for 2015. A year of many great things ahead which I aim to spend on loving the truth even more passionately than before.

HISTORY REPEATING
by Ruth Isaac

As ugly and as repulsive the pictures of the Holocaust are and as uncomfortable they make us feel, there is still a need to remember. Especially today that antisemitism is on the rise again. We need to be aware of what the demonisation of a particular people can cause.  We need to be aware of where hate can lead us.

It is up to us whether we allow history to repeat itself or not, but we need to understand that History will stop repeating itself only when we learn from it.

HISTORICALLY, Jewish people were often accused of murdering and drinking children's blood as part of their religious rituals.  The official term is Blood Libel or Blood Accusation and it was a major theme in the European persecution of Jews. So, it is very ironic to see now the same type of accusations being thrown at them in international headlines.  No other nation is accused of killing children, but Israel.   Every news story that covers the war, bears a picture of children in distress or injured by Israel, ie the Jews.

For sure a huge and very painful accusation in itself.  It shows what people are willing to believe about the Jewish people.  How "evil", they really think they are.   But, it is also extremely dangerous because demonisation leads to dehumanisation, a tactic used very effectively by people like Hitler. It turns public opinion against them so there is no sympathy or outrage when they are being killed or persecuted afterwards.   And this is exactly what we see happening again today.

There seems to be a very aggressive, well-coordinated and hypocritical campaign against the Israeli people and their struggle to survive as a nation in the Middle East, and that should concern us.  Instead of succumbing to manipulative media pressure that want us to believe that they are some sort of monsters, we should be asking ourselves who is behind this campaign and why should we allow centuries of antisemitism to continue. We know where it leads.  But, is it ever justified to demonise an individual group of people like that?

THE STREETS ARE CHANTING is a poem I wrote during the anti-Israel protests last summer. The inspiration was the pictures below and the hate I experienced from the people around me.  I literally wrote on my social media page: Go ahead and support this hateful and death-glorifying propaganda against Israel. The world is throwing stones and you are joining them.  I stand with Israel, although I am not Jewish.

THE STREETS ARE CHANTING
A beautiful Jewish woman

The streets are chanting
something you don't want to hear
Violent voices are calling for my death,
But the world refuses to hear.
There are many wars that people are fighting,
and my neighbours are known
for the most inhumane ones,
but they are accusing me of children's deaths now,
and that is the worst thing ever
for your name to be synonymous with that.
But from all the lies that they are lying,
nothing hurts me more than
that I didn't believe my elders,
when they'd told me
that this had happened to them before.
So, if the streets are chanting,
it is not something that they have not
chanted before,
Nor is it the first time
that the world refused to hear.
But, history has taught us,
Not to ignore evil,
because it will grow.
